Up until last year Manning had a losing record against the Chargers. We all know what happened though. Down 24-0, the Broncos defense opened the flood gates with some timely turnovers and scores and the offense finally stopped shooting itself in the foot. 35 points later, the Broncos were firmly entrenched as the top boss in the AFC West, and the Chargers were dealt a back breaking loss that ultimately led to a top 15 pick in the draft and sweeping changes to the coaching staff.
One interesting fact to note, Peyton Manning has never won a game against the Chargers when throwing more than 1 interception in a game.
Brady on the other hand has won 5 straight. And much like other comparisons we'll see in a couple weeks, has also won games when he's played terribly. Two 3 INT games against the Chargers have yielded two wins. Nevertheless, he has the statistical edge and the winning edge over Manning over the course of their careers against the Chargers.

Last week Peyton was at home resting up those ankles while Brady and the Pat offense managed to find their balls against a very poor Pittsburgh team. Topher has expressed at times that LeBeau and his schemes routinely get lit up, and after last week I'd have to agree. Just think about this, the last meaningful game Tim Tebow won, he lit up the Pittsburgh secondary to the tune of 31.6 yards per completion.
Still, it brought a tear to Bronco Mike's eye to watch New England run up the score at the end.
Historically
I'm doing a thorough comparison right now in preparation for a couple of weeks and I figured I would include some preliminary numbers here. All totals include both the regular season and post season:
Category |
Brady |
Manning |
Games |
210 |
252 |
4+ TD games |
20 (9.5%) |
28 (11.1%) |
500+ YD games |

0 (0.0%) |
3+ TD games |
59 (28.1%) |
75 (29.8%) |
400+ YD Games |
5 (2.3%) |
12 (4.7%) |
300+ YD Games |
62 (29.5%) |
87 (35.5%) |
Never would have guessed that there is only 1 500-yd game between the two. Otherwise, the numbers are pretty close except in 300+ yard games where Peyton holds a 6-pt advantage percentage wise over the course of his career.
That's all for now, hopefully tomorrow marks the third straight win for Peyton and the Broncos against the Chargers. It should be a good game.
