Five Denver Broncos selected to the Pro Bowl

Kent Nishimura

Peyton Manning, Demaryius Thomas, Louis Vasquez, Matt Prater, and Julius Thomas have been selected to the 2013 Pro Bowl.

Peyton Manning was a shoe in for a Pro Bowl spot this year, and he led all players in the fan vote. Manning will be participating in his 13th career Pro Bowl. Demaryius Thomas is heading to his second straight Pro Bowl. Louis Vasquez, Matt Prater, and Julius Thomas all earned their first Pro Bowl nod.

In addition to the five that made the Pro Bowl team, eight additional Broncos were named alternates: Guard Zane Beadles, Special Teamer David Bruton, wide receiver Eric Decker, linebacker Von Miller, running back Knowshon Moreno, center Manny Ramirez, cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and wide receiver Wes Welker.

Peyton Manning:

Career Pro Bowl Selections: 13

2013 Stats: 425-of-631 for 5,211 yards with 51 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, 113.0 passer rating

Notable: Manning has set an NFL record with 51 passing touchdowns thus far in 2013. His 13 Pro Bowl selections tie for second-most in NFL history. Manning leads the NFL in passing yards, touchdowns, completions and attempts, while ranking second in passer rating and third in completion percentage. He joins John Elway as the only two Broncos signal callers to make multiple Pro Bowls for the team.

Matt Prater:

Career Pro Bowl Selections: 1

2013 Stats: 23-of-24 field goals (.958 pct.), 71-of-71 PATs, 140 points, 76 touchbacks, NFL-record 64-yard FG long

Notable: Prater has established NFL records for field-goal long and touchbacks, while setting a career high in points scored through 15 games this season. He is the only kicker to have missed one-or-fewer kicks and his .958 field-goal accuracy percentage leads the league. Prater joins Jason Elam (1995, ’98, 2001) and David Treadwell (1989) as Broncos kickers to earn a Pro Bowl selection.

Demaryius Thomas:

Career Pro Bowl Selections: 2

2013 Stats: 86 catches for 1,317 yards, 12 touchdowns

Notable: Thomas earned his second-straight Pro Bowl selection after setting a career high with 12 receiving scores in 2013. He is just the third Bronco to earn multiple Pro Bowl selections, joining Brandon Marshall (2008-09) and Rod Smith (2000-01, ’05). Thomas ranks in the Top 10 in the NFL in receptions (86, T-8th), receiving yards (1,317, 7th), receiving touchdowns (12, T-2nd) and 25-yard receptions (16, T-1st) this season.

Julius Thomas:
Career Pro Bowl Selections: 1

2013 Stats: 60 catches for 752 yards, 12 touchdowns

Notable: Thomas’ 12 receiving scores tied for fifth-most in NFL history in a single season by a tight end. After catching just one pass for five yards through his first two injury-plagued NFL seasons, Thomas’ 12 touchdown catches thus far in 2013 established a franchise record for tight ends. He joins Shannon Sharpe (1992-98), Riley Odoms (1973-75, ’78) and Dwayne Carswell (2001) as Broncos tight ends to earn Pro Bowl selections.

Louis Vasquez:

Career Pro Bowl Selections: 1

2013 Stats: 15 starts, Zero sacks allowed, three penalties called against

Notable: Vasquez is one of just three starting guards in the NFL that has not allowed a sack this year. He is the only Bronco who has played every possible snap on offense or defense this season. Vasquez joins teammate Zane Beadles (2012) and former Broncos Keith Bishop (1986-87) and Mark Schlereth (1998) as the only offensive guards in team history to make the Pro Bowl.
