Love The Broncos? Want To Write About Them? Mile High Report Is Looking For Writers

If you have a knack for writing, presenting an argument or writing in detail about current events, based on dynamic flow of information, this might be your place.

Mile High Report is looking for candidates to bring you the Horse Tracks, cover breaking news and update news stories. When time permits, the news desk staff will also handle some basic planned news-based posts that can be written and scheduled in advance or published immediately (e.g. TV schedules, basic game previews and injury updates).

Duties: During shifts, candidates are responsible for covering breaking news, updating existing StoryStreams with new news about that story, writing posts based on pre-planned content in our Assignment Desk tool and scouring the internet for stories to write in support of the Denver Broncos, the AFC West, the top NFL stories and Mile High Report. Candidates will be coordinating with editors and supporting MHR through the publishing of news.

Background and qualifications: This is an entry-level position in sports media. Candidates with experience producing sports news content are preferred in either an intern, academic or professional capacity. A journalism degree (or degree in-progress) is preferred but not required. Strong knowledge of all sports and a demonstrated ability to write in an online environment are musts.

Our ideal candidates (There are multiple positions open):

Have strong knowledge about the Broncos, both current and historical

  • Possess good writing skills
  • Have a nose for news, both in knowing what is important and identifying where to find it.
  • Are able to write in line with our best practices for ideal search engine optimization (SEO).
  • Are able to write and publish quickly while remaining accurate.
  • Are self-starters who can work with minimal direction.
  • Possess solid communication skills.
  • Are comfortable working in a virtual environment.

Hours: Newsroom writers will work in three- to four-hour shifts, which generally will run between the times of 9 a.m. and 12:15am ET, seven days a week. Shifts will include mornings, late nights and weekends. Schedules will change from time to time based on the sports calendar and availability.

Compensation: Current positions are unpaid, but several writers have used SBNation to gain experience for paid positions, within SBNation and beyond. Depending on your work, dedication and talent, there are always opportunities for talented writers with high enthusiasm and overall creativeness.
