Some news today from Jeff Legwold that the Denver Broncos may be interested in Ahmad Bradshaw. On the surface, it could be a perfect move as Bradshaw is a bigger back and has a consistent record of producing year after year. The only question mark would be his health.
Foot injuries can be incredibly hard to come back from and sometimes can take a full two years to fully recover from, however, splitting the rock four ways with Willis McGahee, Knowshon Moreno and Ronnie Hillman could keep all of the Broncos running backs fresh and healthy for the entire season. Not to mention, multiple options if injuries do occur.
The biggest knock on Bradshaw is his durability, but John fox wouldn't be asking him to carry the rock exclusively. In six seasons, he has maintained a 4.6 yards per carry average would definitely be an upgrade over every running on the roster, including Willis McGahee.
Elway and company will still likely look to the draft for a diamond in the rough type of back, but with Peyton Manning chucking to the best wide receiver corps in the nation there is very little incentive to go big in the draft on a running back. The one name that keeps popping up is Le'Veon Bell and the Broncos may be content waiting to see how the 2013 NFL Draft plays out before making a strong push for a veteran guy like Bradshaw.
From my perspective, he would be an upgrade over at least 3 of the 4 running backs currently on the roster and would likely come cheap due to his injury. However, I'm okay with letting the draft play itself out as well. Why play your hand before its been fully dealt?
Go Broncos!
