2013 NFL Power Rankings Countdown: #18 Detroit Lions

USA TODAY Sports

Truth be told, I put together these rankings a week after the draft and committed to it by summarizing the ranking below. It just didn't make sense to post an 8000 word thesis on power rankings, so I went the one a day approach. That said, the Titus Young fiasco really reminded me of what is truly wrong with this team. Character. Or rather, lack thereof.

In fact, I would not be surprised if this team flopped again in 2013 and ends up with a new coaching staff in 2014 to start all over again. I also wouldn't be surprised if they finish 10-6 and make the playoffs. I put them in the middle here, because I just. don't. know.

18. Detroit Lions (2012 Record: 4-12)

The biggest underachiever last season was Detroit. The wheels came off that team pretty quickly and they had high expectations heading into the season. They ended up getting run over by the other three divisional foes and just couldn't get any momentum.

It will help having nabbed a plethora of starters in the 2013 NFL Draft that should contribute from Day 1. Also helping their rise will be the step backwards that the Minnesota Vikings will take next year, so expect them to fight their way to a .500 record. If they get on a run they could surprise one of the two divisional rivals ahead of them on this list.

The Lions have had the talent to win games for a couple of years now, but for whatever reason they just can't find a way to get it all together for a deep run into the playoffs. We'll see how it plays out.
