2013 NFL Power Rankings Countdown: #32 Jacksonville Jaguars

Each day around noon MST, I'll post the next team to rank on our list.

Thomas B. Shea

It's way too early for this kind of thing, but we can attempt to look at each teams draft and guess whether or not they improved their team overall or not. Compare that to their expected schedule and decide whether they will take steps forward or backward. Towards the end of preseason, we will start doing these power ranking posts again through the end of the season.

Each day I'll attempt to analyze/summarize each team's potential in 2-3 paragraphs. Let's begin with...

32. Jacksonville Jaguars (2012 Record: 2-14)

I am probably going to take a little bit of heat for ranking the Jaguars so low, but my reasoning is pretty simple. I do not believe in their quarterback, Blaine Gabbert. He is entering his third season in the NFL and is a career 54% passer. What is worse, the Jaguars didn't address their need in the 2013 NFL Draft when they had more than one chance to grab one. Oh and before you mention, Chad Henne. Really? Even Jaguars fans know this.

Overall, the Jaguars improved their roster pretty well in the draft, but their inability to address the most important position on the team is going to cost them dearly. They may not finish with the number one overall pick by virtue of a weaker schedule, but I wouldn't expect an impressive seasons from them in 2013.

If they are able to address their quarterback position long term, then this team would immediately become a playoff caliber team. That's how important the quarterback position is in today's NFL. Who knows, maybe five games into the season they desperately sign Tim Tebow and he leads them to a playoff berth. Hey, it could happen!
