Here's our quick overview on how the Denver Broncos look in fantasy football this year, as well as identifying a Broncos fantasy "diamond in the rough" (sleeper pick). Except a more in-depth preview at each position next week!
Running Back
From a fantasy perspective, the Denver Broncos running back situation is a mess. You have Ronnie Hillman pegged as the starter, but his stock has never been lower following his two-fumble performance in Denver's second preseason game. Montee Ball would be on the cusp of taking over that starting role, except his performance in the same preseason game wasn't that much better.
In the end it might be Knowshon Moreno who turns out to be Denver's most consistent and reliable running back this season, but we are all too aware of his inability to stay healthy.
MHR Recommendation: Stay away from Broncos running backs altogether if you can. The situation is too fluid to lend any confidence.
Wide Receiver
The addition of Wes Welker makes Denver's offense one of the greatest ever - on paper. It's almost a fantasy team itself.
MHR Recommendation: The respective stocks of Demaryius Thomas and Wes Welker are unaffected by the move, but Eric Decker might be the only man in the mix who sees his fantasy stock fall by the Broncos infusing Welker into their system. There just aren't enough footballs to go around for these three 1,000 yard receivers from a year ago continue that success this year.
Or is there?
Tight End
Denver's tight end situation is interesting because their lead receiver at the position from a year ago - Jacob Tamme - is not expected to repeat the feat. At least not from us at MHR. The emergence of Julius Thomas in training camp and the preseason this offseason isn't being talked about enough, outside of Denver, but it's legitimate - this third season for Thomas looks to be the year he breaks out.
MHR Recommendation and Broncos diamond in the rough: Julius Thomas deserves your attention in the late rounds. Take a flier on him. The tight end will serve as a great backup you could end up starting down the line this season.
Even if he wouldn't draft himself in fantasy.
POLL: Do you insist on drafting Broncos when it comes to fantasy football or do you draft strictly from an NFL perspective come draft day?
