The Denver Broncos (2-0) have certainly gotten off to a hot start in 2013.
Their start has been so hot, they are on pace to break several NFL records this season. In the meantime, the team is leading the league in several major statistical categories.
Injuries: Ayers and Ihenacho will be 'OK'
Safety Duke Ihenacho and defensive end Robert Ayers both tweeted on Monday that they will be OK after suffering injuries in Sunday's victory over the Giants.
Team Defense
On defense, the Broncos have allowed a measly 40.5 rushing yards per game, which is an NFL low. It certainly helps when you are averaging 45 points a game and teams have to pass to stay in the contest.
Meanwhile, Denver's defense has allowed offenses to convert on only 27 percent of third down attempts, which ranks them third in the NFL. The team's five sacks ranks 15th and their six interceptions rank first.
Individual Defense
Safety Duke Ihenacho has recorded 18 tackles through two games, which ranks him 14th among all NFL defenders and fourth among fellow safeties. On the defensive line, Shaun Phillips has recorded 2.5 sacks, ranking eighth overall. Cornerback Chris Harris Jr. is tied for the NFL lead in interceptions with two and his five pass break ups tie for third in the NFL. Harris became the first Bronco since Champ Bailey in 2009 to have interceptions in consecutive weeks when he intercepted Joe Flacco in Week 1 and Eli Manning in Week 2 this season.
Team Offense
The Broncos have averaged 463 yards per game (which ranks third in the NFL) and are leading the league in scoring with an average of 45 points a game. The team's 376.0 passing yards per game ranks third and they are among four teams (joining the Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles, and Tennessee Titans) that are yet to throw an interception.
Individual Offense
Quarterback Peyton Manning is well on his way to smashing several NFL records this fall. This season, Manning became the first QB in NFL history to throw for nine touchdowns and no interceptions through the first two games of a season. He's also on a fifteen-game streak in which he has posted a passer rating of 90.0 or better. His 67.1 completion percentage ranks seventh among QBs and his 769 passing yards rank third. His nine passing touchdowns are an NFL high and his 44.7 percent first down mark ranks first. Manning has completed eleven passes of 20-plus yards (ranking him fourth) and his 131 passer rating is currently a league high.
Among running backs that have 20 or more carries, Knowshon Moreno ranks fourth in the NFL with an average of 5.5 yards per carry. Moreno's two rushing touchdowns tie for first.
Wide receiver Demaryius Thomas is averaging 21.3 yards per catch, which ranks first among receivers that have caught ten or more passes this season. Thomas' 106.5 yards per game ranks tenth among NFL receivers and his long of 78 yards takes a back seat to only Julio Jones, who owns an 81-yard catch this season.
Special Teams
After going 2-of-2 against the New York Giants in Week 2, kicker Matt Prater is now the team's all-team leader in career field goal accuracy, going 118-of-146, or .808 percent. Prater is among fifteen kickers that are yet to miss a field goal this season and has booted eleven of his kickoffs for touchbacks, which is an NFL high.
Kick returner Trindon Holliday has averaged 17 yards per kickoff return (ranked 32nd) and 19.6 yards per punt return (ranked 1st). Holliday's long of 81 yards currently leads the NFL (he is the only player that has returned a punt longer than 40 yards this season). Holliday was also the first player to return a punt for a score this season, giving him five on his career, which now ranks second in franchise history behind Rick Upchurch.
