Peyton Manning plans to play '14 season. Super Bowl win or playoff loss will not decide his fate. His mandatory physical exam in March will.
— Chris Mortensen (@mortreport) January 12, 2014
That is good news for fans, players and members of the Denver Broncos staff. As ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports Manning is contractually obligated to pass a physical exam every March and that will be the actual determining factor in whether or not he plays. On Manning's side he is all in.
Upon passing that exam Manning will be set to earn a base salary of $15 million, with $2.5 million in bonuses coming his way. Denver currently has $10.626 million free under the 2014 cap with names like Eric Decker, Knowshon Moreno, Chris Harris, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Zane Beadles and Shaun Phillips remaining unsigned.
Manning will be 38 years old on March 24th and 2014 will be his 17th season in the NFL, he has been the NFL's Most Valuable Player four times (and this season he will likely earn his fifth).
