Peyton Manning eyes 500th touchdown - Horse Tracks

Good morning Broncos Country!

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning is one touchdown pass from crossing the 500 touchdown plateau. The only other quarterback to pass that mark is Brett Favre.

Peyton Manning has played in 35 regular season passes for the Denver Broncos, and in that time he has 100 touchdown passes. That's pretty impressive if you ask me.

Denver Broncos Head Coach spoke about Manning potentially reaching that mark after Wednesday's practice.

"Obviously somebody has played for a long time. If he’s throwing them, it’s at the quarterback position. I think its greatness. If somebody reaches that kind of statistic in their career, it’s pretty remarkable."

This is pretty big mile stone that Manning is passing. Only three quarterbacks all-time have surpassed 400 touchdowns, and only seven have surpassed the 300 touchdown mark(one being Denver Broncos GM John Elway).

After practice of Wednesday Manning was asked what 500 touchdowns means to him, here's what he had to say.

"I’ve always looked at your touchdown and interception [totals] every single year. I think that’s a goal my quarterback coaches and I have always set each year. You want to certainly have touchdowns high and interceptions low. That means you’re getting your team in the end zone and that means you’re protecting the ball. I think that particular statistic usually leads to winning football games. That’s what I’ve always thought about. As far as the other thing, when asked about it, obviously you’re just trying to win this football game, but when asked about it, I have reflected on how many great teammates and coaches that I have been with along the way that have been a part of that. You don’t throw that many touchdowns without a lot of help. You mention Tom and Bruce and I think about all the receivers and as my old center Jeff Saturday said, the only reason I’ve thrown that many is because I had great protection for so many years. Typical lineman speaking, especially one in the media now. To tell you the truth, he’s right, there are so many people that have helped me along the way so I guess I think about how grateful I am to have played with some great teammates in all positions and have had excellent coaching. I’ve always been grateful and will always be indebted to that."

Speaking of milestones, Manning is only nine touchdowns away from tying Brett Favre for the all time mark, and ten to surpass him.

During his career Manning has averaged about 2 touchdown passes per game, so Manning should surpass Favre's mark by the end of October.

It should be a fun and historic few weeks for Manning and the Broncos.

Go Broncos!
