Jeff Darlington is reporting that Richie Incognito is meeting with the Broncos. Other sources are saying the Guard has already worked out for the team and that talks are ongoing.
Richie Incognito is currently still in meetings with the Broncos today. A signing is not imminent — but "it’s going great so far," I’m told.— Jeff Darlington (@JeffDarlington) November 11, 2014
Incognito was infamously involved in the Dolphins bullying scandal of tackle Jonathan Martin. At one point Martin reached his breaking point and left the team.
An NFL investigation into the matter found that Martin was "taunted and ridiculed almost daily." The subject of the bullying was often racial and sexual in nature. Incognito was suspended by the Dolphins for the final 8 games of the 2013 season but was cleared by the NFL to play in 2014 back in August.
On the field, Incognito was a pro bowl guard for the Dolphins in 2012 and graded out +9.4 on the season according to pro football focus. He graded out positively both in run blocking and pass blocking while allowing 4 sacks, 5 hits, and 6 hurries. He and Mike Pouncey were the only Dolphins OL that were graded positive in 2012.
The Broncos are doing everything in their power to correct the offensive line issue. While I understand the argument that the Broncos do not need a poison apple in their locker room, Elway has built an atmostphere that is inclusive to all. There are many leaders up and down the roster and I have a hard time believing they would allow the sort of thing that happened in Miami. Furthermore, Incognito is in no position to come onto a team and continue his douchebaggery from the past. Whatever opportunity he receives (if he does indeed receive one) will be his one and only shot to tow the line. Bottom line, we're not the Dolphins and the leadership in place will not allow for that sort of nonsense.
If Incognito is ready, in shape, and capable of playing to his 2012 standard, the Broncos should make the deal. It would allow much more flexibility and the possibility of moving Orlando Franklin back to RT while Louis Vasquez slides back to RG.
What is your verdict Broncos Country, do you like that the Broncos are looking into this option?
