The broncos staff is clearly still soft. More agressiveness is still a need.

Hello folks

Following an article I wrote 1 week ago about the mentality needed to win the SB with our roster (http://www.milehighreport.com/2014/11/17/7233555/change-the-mentality), I happened to hear something interesting in the last game even before the kickoff:
"The broncos elected to receive the ball for the second half" (or a sentence similar, I'm not 100% sure, but that's the understanding I had)

That small sentence made we think again about what I wrote in my previous post and think at it as the opposite way to handle our team strengths.

Back then I wrote: "The Offense shall imperatively get points early on"

Then the game went on with a dramatic beginning then a great end with a close win. I decided to search for more data in order to have a confirmation regarding the way our coaching staff handle small things as "receive or not the ball at the beginning of a game" and how this can be seen as being soft compared to an aggressive mind (from an agressive point of view, my mind is described in the sentence I wrote 1 week agoi put in bold above).

Here are the results of my small research from the results this year:

  1. From a general point of view:
82% of the time the leading team at half time wins the game
    • 55% of the time the winning team is decided during the 2nd quarter.
  2. From the Broncos point of view:
When the broncos gets points first they win the game 100% of the time: 5 out of 5
    • When the opponent scores before the broncos, the ratio is only 50% win: 3 out of 6 (including 1 4th quarter comeback)
  3. Through the first 7 games, the broncos scored first 5 out of 7 times: the result is 86% wins (6 out of 7).
For the last 4 games, the opponent scored first 4 out of 4 times: result is a 50% win (2 out of 4, including the Raiders).

With how our team is structure (see my previous article, in short: built to play with a lead, any kind of lead) I can’t understand how our coaching staff can prefer to receive the ball for the second half, that’s just the opposite of being aggressive.

We should always (100% of the time) chose to receive first!!!

Why? Because it’s the best way to score first, to have a lead at half and to win the game has proven by our current record.
Concrete example: if both teams can’t score on their first try, the one which received the kickoff will have a second chance to score first. It is as simple as that: the receiving team has more chance to be the one which will score first.

The conclusion I learned form me small researchs is until the coaching staff understands such small things and are aggressive from the coin toss, our season can be jeopardized before the beginning of the game. Our coaching staff is still soft until they prove otherwise for a whole game AND the preparation of that game (coin toss included).

Go (agressive) Broncos !
