Ever wonder what you would have scored on the wonderlic?

Jeff Zelevansky

Bronco Mike scored a 44 according to the short quiz on footballiqscore.com That was on the shorter version of the test however.  Fellow Bronco journalist Andrew Mason tweeted a score of 47 (if I remember correctly) about a month ago.  Former Bronco Eric Decker scored a 43, and our very own John Elway scored a 30.  So for at least a day or so, I'm gonna buck up those britches and taunt "I'm smarter than John Elway!"

We all know that Peyton Manning is a "know it all" pre-snap, so what did our genius score on his combine attempt? A lowly 28....his brother Eli? 39. So while Bronco Mike is smarter than both John Elway and Peyton Manning, don't read anything deep into it.  You'd much rather see #7 and #18 out there calling signals over the #90 of yours truly!

Does the wonderlic mean anything in relation to football?  Not necessarily.  Essentially it is a specialized IQ test meant to quantify the aptitude a person has in different areas of understanding.  What might be of more use is if the NFL broke the responses down by category to test by position group.  It might even be more valuable to test spacial recognition which would directly correlate to learning the playbook and watching film.

As a teacher, quite frankly I'm a bit shocked that the NFL braintrust hasn't come together to develop their own aptitude test that tries to measure the football IQ of these potential NFL players.  Guaranteed if we got the federal government involved, we could re-vamp and re-create the system every couple of years!!!  At the very least get the smartest minds in football together and let's take the wonderlic to a level that is meaningful to future football players.
