2014 NFL mock draft: OT Taylor Lewan to Buffalo Bills with 9th pick

With the 9th pick in the 2014 Mile High Report Community Mock Draft, Buffalo Bills GM Arimaris selects...

The Bills had quite a few options with the ninth pick. There are solid or better players in many places on the team; everywhere, that is, except for the offensive line. The reality is that Buffalo need a player who can immediately start in the NFL at the tackle position. As a franchise, the Bills need to decide whether EJ Manuel is the long-term answer at quarterback. In order to show this, he deserves the best possible opportunity, which means the holes on the offensive line must be shored up to allow Manuel to have time to make plays with the above average skill players around him.

With the ninth pick in the 2014 MHR Community Mock Draft, the Buffalo Bills select...

Taylor Lewan, OT, Michigan

Taylor Lewan is a physically imposing, strong and bullish tackle from the University of Michigan. Lewan is a tough player, who has a mean streak and likes to pound defenses with his 6'7", 309 lb. frame. Compared to Jake Long of the St. Louis Rams, Lewan is a raw talent, who holds the potential and physical capabilities to make up a strong offensive tackle at the next level. His strength and quickness make him capable of starting immediately in the NFL, but Lewan has much room for improvement in his technique, meaning he can only get better.

The fact that Lewan is still developing is a benefit because the Bills can use his raw talent and abilities to work with in order to find him a home at either guard or tackle after he has time to work on the finer details of his play and technique with the Buffalo coaching staff. Adding a tackle like Lewan benefits the Bills by providing more protection for young QB EJ Manuel, as well as providing stronger run blocking for their tandem of running backs, CJ Spiller and Fred Jackson.
