2014 NFL mock draft: DT Aaron Donald to St. Louis Rams with 13th pick

With the lucky 13th pick in the 2014 Mile High Report Community Mock Draft, St. Louis Rams GM Nastyj selects...

With the 13th pick in the 2014 MHR Community Mock Draft, the St. Louis Rams select...

Aaron Donald, DT, Pittsburgh

I know I know, the Rams need a FS and the top 2 safeties are still on the board and EVERYONE has mocked a safety to the Rams at 13.  However, I didn't make this pick just to be different.  I am not a huge fan of DBs from Alabama, they just haven't lived up to their hype recently, and I think both Clinton-dix and Pryor are better suited as box safeties than they are as center-fielders IMO.  I also looked at CB, TE, and OT, but the value just wasn't there.

This is truly a BPA pick.  I have Donald rated as a top 10 talent and he may be the best D-lineman in this draft.  The Rams already have a decimating D-line and it just gets stronger with my Co-GM picking Clowney earlier and me adding Donald.  This gives the Rams flexibility with Kendall Langford and Chris Long's contracts as both those guys probably walk in the near future. Plus, in a nasty division where the battle in the trenches is key, the Rams get deeper, younger and more athletic with a truly intimidating rotation.  I foresee Brockers moving over to 0 or 1 tech (which he played some last year and can do at 6'5" 320ish), Donald at 3 tech and a rotation of Quinn, Long and Clowney at DE.  Imagine Quinn, Long, Clowney, Brockers, and Donald all rotating in and chasing Kap and Wilson around.

Finally, I absolutely love Donald!  My brother is a Cowboys fan and has been scouting him all off-season.  If you watch his tape of the Sr. Bowl, this guy absolutely dominated the top O-line talent in the country.  Forget the size concerns, this kid can flat out play and he, along with Clowney, just made the best D-line in football even better.
