With the 242nd pick of the 2014 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos selected Corey Nelson, a linebacker out of Oklahoma.
Selected LB Corey Nelson from Oklahoma in 7th Rd. He's got great speed and a nose for the football.

John Elway went on to say, "I think he’s a guy that can come in here and compete for a job. He’s got great speed and a nose for the football so he’ll provide some competition and has a chance to make our team."
Here is what Draft Insider had to say about Nelson:
Positive: Three-year starter who played in just five games last season before suffering a partially torn pectoral muscle. Finished the year with 27 tackles and 3 tackles for loss. Career-best 58 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks came as a sophomore in 2011. Swift, pursuit linebacker best in a run-and-chase system. Displays speed in a straight line or laterally, has a tremendous closing burst to the play, and covers a lot of area. Breaks down well, effectively uses his hands, and easily changes direction. Makes plays to every area of the field, effective in space, and relatively instinctive.
Negative: Undersized and easily blocked from the action or slowed in traffic. Average coverage skills for a smaller linebacker.
Analysis: Nelson was a consistent linebacker at Oklahoma who watched his senior campaign end prematurely because of a pectoral injury. He's a one-gap, pursuit linebacker who plays with a special teams mentality.
This interesting prospect missed most of his senior season with a torn pectoral muscle. Before that happened, Nelson was a defensive captain and a multi-year starter who has appeared in more than 40 games as a college athlete.
He tried and failed to get a fifth year extension of eligibility from the NCAA late last year, but was denied due to having played in more than three games in the 2013 football season. Works for us Broncos fans, because it means he will be joining the roster in training camp to compete for one of the final 53!
Nelson not invited to combine, had chest injury in '13, ran 4.60 at pro day at 231 pounds. returned int. for TD against Notre Dame #DENpick.
