Horse Tracks: Rookie Minicamp nears a close

Only one day remains in Denver Broncos rookie minicamp.

Justin Edmonds

This is a time for new players to hit the ground running with a bunch of peers who are likely to have their heads spinning as well.  It is time for coaches to introduce the playbook, get some reps, then see how the players can handle the big leagues.

Perhaps the greatest streak going tor the Broncos is the fact that an UDFA rookie has made the team is so many consecutive seasons.

One player I'll be looking at in particular as a scouting exercise will be Shaq Barrett.  Barrett projects more as a rush end/SAM linebacker in the mold of Von Miller.  His instincts are superb though and I wouldn't be surprised if he got a shot at the Mike at some point.

As was reported by MHR yesterday, Robert Mathis will be out for the Broncos season opener against the Colts.  Mr. Mathis is a personal favorite of mine and has always taken the time to answer questions via twitter:

The Broncos are scheduled to play the Colts opening weekend at home on Sunday Night Football.
