How long does it take to erase a 35-point Super Bowl deficit?
According to Las Vegas, less than one NFL offseason.
Training Camp
The Broncos are back to being On-Paper Super Bowl Champions, according to bettors and Bovada.lv. It's a bittersweet distinction that doesn't mean anything come February 2015, but gives Broncos fans bragging rights/other fans laughing material. The latest odds from Bovada show that Denver are the favorites for Super Bowl XLIX at 13/2 odds, their highest this offseason, while the Seattle Seahawks have slipped to 7/1 odds.
It's important to recognize that Super Bowl odds don't just reflect who experts believe will win; they reflect how bettors are betting. We asked Bovada why the Broncos are now the favorites, and their answer was simple. "Since we opened these odds in February, Denver has taken twice as much money as Seattle," Bovada Sports Book Manager Kevin Bradley told us.
Below are the five teams with the best odds to win Super Bowl XLIX, with positive changes from the team's previous odds highlighted in blue, negative in red.
Team | Current Odds | Odds on May 12 | Odds on Feb 3 | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|
Denver Broncos | 13/2 | 7/1 | 8/1 | Broncos are now the favorite after trailing the Seahawks |
Seattle Seahawks | 7/1 | 6/1 | 9/2 | Odds have slowly gotten longer |
San Francisco 49ers | 15/2 | 15/2 | 15/2 | One of three teams whose odds didn't move |
New England Patriots | 8/1 | 15/2 | 14/1 | Much shorter after initial SB odds, a little longer since |
Green Bay Packers | 10/1 | 12/1 | 16/1 | Odds have gotten shorter each time |
"You can make a case for either Seattle or the Broncos to be the favorite to win the Super Bowl," said Bradley. "Even though Denver is 13-2 and Seattle 7-1, it is not much of a difference really."
Around the AFC West
Denver's AFC West foes are all ranked in the bottom half of NFL teams. The San Diego Chargers are 18th at 40/1 odds; the Kansas City Chiefs are 20th with 50/1 odds; the Oakland Raiders are 30th with 100/1 odds. All three have seen their odds get longer this offseason.
The Broncos are enjoying 9/4 odds to win the AFC Conference and 1/3 odds to win the AFC West for their fourth straight season.
Super Bowl XLIX can't come soon enough.
