Horse Tracks: Has anyone had a worse offseason than the Chiefs?

A year removed from a surprise playoff victory appearance, the Kansas City Chiefs have had quite possibly the worst off-season among any team in the NFL.

Cap Issues

Not having the cap space necessary to make a big splash in free agency, the Chiefs lost out on several of their own free-agents.  Dexter McCluxter, Branden Albert, Jon Asamoah, and Geoff Schwartz, Tyson Jackson all went elsewhere to get paid.  The team went further by releasing DB Dunta Robinson and Brandon Flowers.....who joined divisional rival San Diego.

When they did sign guys, they were average depth.  Players such as Husain Abdullah, Jeff Linkenbach, Frank Zombo, and Cory Grissom.

They even tapped former LB Joe Mays to start on the inside along Derrick Johnson....except he injured himself and is now IR designated to return.

When you lack talent, your current talent has to stay healthy and out of trouble.  Donald Stephenson and Dwayne Bowe both find themselves suspended to begin the season.

But it all gets much worse than that.  On Sunday they lost DE Mike DeVito and ILB Derek John suffered season ending injuries.

And after saving all that money by being frugal, they turn around and give it to Alex Smith!!!!!!

If there ever needed to be a mercy rule in the NFL, this Sunday's Game will show us.
