Horse Tracks: No one is to blame for Broncos loss to Seahawks

Stuff happens in football games. Sometimes that stuff benefits your team, other times it screws them. The end result was an exciting 26-20 thriller in overtime that should give us all confidence in this team moving forward.

Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

If you absolutely must blame something for the impressive 26-20 overtime game between the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks, then blame fate. Fate caused the coin to fall in the Seahawks favor to start overtime. It couldn't have been a worse outcome for the Broncos defenders who were desperate for an inkling of a breather after a very taxing fourth quarter of football. Unfortunately, that was where they left it all out there.

It's never a good sign when backups like Corey Nelson and Lamin Barrow are playing in overtime against the defending Super Bowl champions, but Jack Del Rio had little choice in the matter. Those two didn't lose the game, but rather it just goes to show how depleted the defensive unit was after the end of regulation.

Either way, we as a fan base have got to be pleased with the overall performance of the team. With the offense and defense both laying eggs in the first half, it was very nice to see first the defense come together and then the offense to overcome a 17-3 fourth quarter deficit. That 80 yard, 41 second drive capped by a two point conversion to Demaryius Thomas was something special. I know I had pretty much packed it in at that point, so that offensive explosion really made the game for me. In fact, up until that point I felt like Peyton Manning was just old.

All in all, how many of you actually thought the Broncos would go into Seattle and do what few other teams do and beat the Seahawks on CenturyLink Field? I didn't.

Looking ahead, I believe we got a look at the two best teams in the NFL this week in the Seahawks and Broncos. However, the gap is quickly closing with the Cincinnati Bengals peaking here early in the season. Outside of the Bengals, I have not been too impressed with the Philadelphia Eagles outside of their ability to comeback to win games. The other item of complete clarity is that the disparity of the AFC and NFC no longer exists. We have two equal conferences again.

Player of the Game: DeMarcus Ware. He had just one tackle, which came off a momentum changing sack at the goal line and diverted the runner on the very next play into a safety that help catapult the Broncos towards that thrilling finish. Way to step up at just the right time DeMarcus! Chris Harris Jr. also balled out last night, along with Von Miller.
