Thoughts: The big news here is that linebacker Brandon Marshall is ACTIVE and is playing for the Broncos defense for this afternoons game. Marshall is admittedly not 100%, but his addition should be big for the Broncos defense. Marshall is the teams leading tackler, and excels in coverage and he'll be needed to help slow down Quarterback Andrew Luck.
Expectation is that #broncos LB Brandon Marshall will play either in nickel or base but not both. It will keep him on at play count.— Troy Renck (@TroyRenck) January 11, 2015
It will be interesting to see how much, and what packages Marshall does play in, but just having him back even in a limited way would still be a big addition for the Broncos.
Inactive is offensive tackle Paul Cornick. He's been dealing with a turf toe injury, and that's keeping him out of the lineup. Active is tackle Chris Clark. Clark will serve as the teams third tackle, and will see time as a blocking tight end in the Broncos running formations.
Rookie receiver Cody Latimer and backup defensive tackle Mitch Unrein are among the inactives for the Broncos. A bit of a surprise is rookie Juwan Thompson being inactive and Jeremy Stewart being active. I'd assume special teams comes into play here.
Rookie Michael Schofield who has been inactive all season is also inactive along with cornerback Tony Carter and tight end Dominique Jones.
Rookie Defensive End/Linebacker Shaq Barrett gets his NFL Debut today in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. He was added to the roster Saturday when the Broncos placed defensive end Quanterus Smith on the season ending injured reserve.
