Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak is the frontrunner to become the next head coach of the Denver Broncos, according to multiple reports.
CBS' Jason La Canfora expands, saying Kubiak is "far and away" Denver's top choice.
Kubiak interview scheduled
The former Broncos quarterback and offensive coordinator will meet with John Elway and the Broncos this Sunday, according to reports Friday, a day after reports from Baltimore leaked that the Ravens were "preparing for life without" Kubiak.
Must Reads
CBS4 Denver's Vic Lombardi notes that there are two potential issues with the hire: Kubiak's health and Peyton Manning. Any new head coach will have to be on board coaching Manning in the twilight of his career, if he comes back. John Elway has said he wants Manning to come back.
Teryl Austin withdraws
One scheduled interviewer has decided to pass - Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin has withdrawn from consideration of the Broncos head-coach opening, according to ESPN. Austin was set to interview with Denver Friday. We're connecting dots here, but it sounds to us like he's ready to accept an offer from the Atlanta Falcons to become their next head coach, with whom he has interviewed twice.
Other Broncos interviews
The Broncos met with current Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase this Thursday; he was their first official interview.
The Broncos have requested to interview Cincinnati Bengals secondary coach Vance Joseph.
The Broncos will interview former Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone on Saturday, Adam Schefter reports.
Other candidates
Other possible candidates, according to reports, include Ravens QB coach Rick Dennison and Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.
