John Elway, Denver Broncos quarterback, laughs at Tom Brady's perceived need to deflate footballs.
John Elway, Broncos quarterback from 1983 to 1998, shimmered with arms of power and muscles a Mile High. The football rocketed out of John's hand like a bullet more than a pigskin. The only chance Elway ever played with deflated footballs was if air exploded out of them upon impact of the receivers' hand (ouch). Or if one got caught between his forearm and his bicep.
Deflate one's footballs? "I never even thought about it," Elway told USA TODAY at the Senior Bowl this week.
Elway wouldn't comment on what he thought an appropriate punishment for Brady and/or Bill Belichick might be.
So while we all await Tom Brady's comments about Deflate-gate, and the NFL's investigation, we recognize that other players are now admitting to manipulating the air pressure in footballs to gain a competitive advantage. But Denver's own John Elway wasn't among them.
