The Denver Broncos open up the second quarter with a big third down conversion, followed by another pass from Brock Osweiler to Demaryius Thomas to put them back down into the red zone. On third and five from the Ptitsburgh Steelers 15 yard ling, Osweiler would hit Owen Daniels for the first down inside the ten.
On third and goal, Osweiler would run it in from six yards out. The Broncos have opened up a 20-7 lead over the Steelers on the road after Brandon McManus misses his first extra point of the season.
Osweiler is 11-of-14 for 185 yards with two TDs passes and a TD rushing as he starts this drive.— Jeff Legwold (@Jeff_Legwold) December 20, 2015
The Steelers on their next possession started with a couple of nice completions to Antonio Brown from Ben Roethlisberger to get to midfield. The Broncos defense began missing some tackles to get the Steelers into field goal range and the drive was almost blown wide open if not for a holding call on Heath Miller after he was beaten by Shaquil Barrett on the outside. The penalty took the Steelers out of field goal range.
Von Miller nearly sacked Big Ben on the next play, but Roethlisberger threw the ball at the feet of Heath Miller to avoid the big loss. On third and twenty, Aqib Talib would commit pass interference to put the Steelers down near the red zone.
What a huge flag. Aqib Talib called for defensive pass interference on 3rd and 20, and now the #Steelers are threatening.— MileHighReport (@MileHighReport) December 20, 2015
The Steelers, on first down goal, would hit Antonio Brown for a four yard gain. However, the Broncos defense would stiffen to force a third down and goal from the six yard line. Bradley Roby would be in perfect position to break up a pass to Markus Wheaton in the end zone.
Chris Boswell would kick the field goal to cut the Broncos lead to 20-10.
Brock Osweiler is having himself quite a game, but so is Emmanuel Sanders. Together, they drive down the field to get into field goal range. Converting third downs is now becoming a thing for the Broncos.
After a short run by C.J. Anderson, Osweiler would hit Sanders again just short of the first down marker to set up third down a short. Sanders has 8 catches for 139 yards and a touchdown and its not even halftime yet. On third down, Ronnie Hillman would run all the way down to the eight yard line to setup first and goal. The Broncos are in business yet again.
After the two minute warning, Osweiler would throw a short pass to Demaryius Thomas who laid down the wood with a big stiff arm that would clear the way for an easy touchdown for the Broncos who go up 27-10 with less than two minutes to go in the half.
With plenty of time left, the Steelers got things moving after a third down conversion to push the ball up near midfield with a little over a minute to go. After a huge sack by Shane Ray to put the Steelers in a third and long situation, Ben Rosethlisberger would hit Antonio Brown for a first down near field goal range.
Another completion would put the Steelers into field goal range with just over twenty seconds left in the half. However, a quick pass over the middle to Heath Miller with no timeouts leaves the Steelers with no choice but to bring Chris Boswell on the field for a field goal attempt.
The field goal cuts the Broncos lead to 27-13. The Broncos get the ball to start the second half.
