Virgil Green
2014 Salary: 645K + 16K signing bonus
Projected 2015 Salary: 2.0-3.0 million
2014 Role: Backup, starter due to injury
2015 Role: Starter
Analysis:
Who says Virgil can't catch the ball? Sure he only had 7 catches on 8 targets, but when they finally threw him a seam pass and endzone route, Virgil answered the bell.
Now, I'm not here to convince anyone that Virgil is the next Shannon Sharpe, but he is a good all around TE that will do wonders in Gary Kubiak's offense. Need an H-back? No problem. Want someone to line up in the backfield like a FB? No problem. Need a dependable blocker that will spring open a nice hole? Virgil is your man.
Must Reads
Because of his lack of production in the passing game, Virgil will also come at a very cheap price. I honestly don't know where to begin to place his value because I feel like he can be a valuable part of the passing game as well. He very well might make more staying with the Broncos--a team that knows his value, rather than with another team on the open market.
Green is one of the valuable pieces that can be resigned for cheap. I expect him to remain a Bronco for the next several seasons.
Remember, the Broncos are currently void of a TE on their roster(practice squad excluded) and will need to sign a couple as well as look for one or two more in the draft/rookie free agent ranks.
Tomorrow we will continue our countdown with another UFA profile.
