Report: Chicago Bears to sign Will Montgomery

With the Broncos trade for center Gino Gradkowski yesterday, it was unlikely they would have signed Montgomery.

Via NFL.com and information from Ian Rappaport, The Chicago Bears will release current center Roberto Garza and are expected to sign former Broncos center Will Montgomery to a one-year deal.

Montgomery played well down the stretch in place of Manny Ramirez who was benched in the midseason OL shuffle. He was one of only two Broncos offensive linemen that graded out positively in 2014 according to pro football focus (the other was Orlando Franklin who also signed elsewhere).

Though it might have been a stretch for the Broncos to add Montgomery right after trading for Gino Gradkowski, he would probably have still been their best option as a starter heading into 2015

As it stands, the position group that was probably in most need of attention this offseason has been patched up with the likes of average or below average players with tenuous ties to new Head Coach Gary Kubiak.

Had you told me going into Free Agency the Broncos would be relying on a competition between Shelley Smith, Ben Garland, Matt Paradis, Gino Gradkowski, and Manny Ramirez at center and left guard heading into the draft, I would have laughed in your face and called you a liar, but here we are.

Imagine this Broncos Country, your 2015 Denver Broncos starting OL could be:

LT Clady

LG Garland/Smith

C Gradkowski/Ramirez

RG Vasquez

RT Schofield/Clark
