Horse Tracks: Denver Broncos rookie minicamp ends on a sad note

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

When news broke yesterday that Jacksonville Jaguars first round pick, Dante Fowler Jr., tore his ACL and was done for the year, my initial thought was, "Man, hope that doesn't happen to one of our guys."

As if Murphy and his law heard my unspoken thoughts, Denver Broncos third round pick Jeff Heuerman tears his ACL on the final day of rookie minicamp.

Heuerman impressed during the first day of activities, making a one handed grab early on. When asked after yesterday's practice if he felt that catch made him feel like he "had arrived" in the NFL, his response was 100% humble saying, "I didn’t feel like I arrived; I was glad I caught it [laughing]. I’m really far away from arriving. But yeah it was good to get out there, play some football, catch a few balls, compete a little bit. Yeah, I definitely don’t think I arrived, but glad I caught the ball."

The good news is that Heuerman will be able to spend a year learning the offense and his role and he really wasn't going to see the field much in 2015 anyway. Such is life in the NFL. Here's to hoping this isn't a harbinger of things to come for the Denver Broncos.
