Horse Tracks: Records, Demaryius Thomas, Fullback

Good morning Broncos Country!

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

By the time it's said and done, Manning will have also extended his TD pass record into the 560-570 range. Brett Favre holds the all-time record for most wins with 186. That would mean Peyton and the Broncos have to finish at least 9-7 in order for Manning to take over. Favre also holds the record for most yards passing in a career with 71,838. Peyton needs 2,148 yards in order to surpass Favre for the career triple crown.

Should he?

One nuance I forgot about in the DT vs. Broncos contract negotiations is the fact that once DT signs his franchise tender, he becomes subject to all team rules once again. This means the Broncos could start fining him for each and every practice Thomas misses.

One thing is for sure, this is gut check time for Elway and the FO. To let this contract fall through would only continue to exacerbate the notion that home grown talent has to go elsewhere in order to get paid. Can't expect everyone to give you a hometown discount, sometimes you have to pay market value for a player's services.

Look at the contract that was given to Corey Liuget yesterday. If Elway has a hard time locking down DT, how do you think it's going to go when a guy like Malik Jackson demands a similar 10-million per season salary?

Fullback

With news that Juwan Thompson is not working on being a FB at the moment, Broncos fans should expect the team to carry 4 RB and 4 TE (which includes one flex player to FB). The Broncos seem to be perfectly fine with the notion of Casey as that FB/TE hybrid player, with Virgil Green also having the same ability to play some FB at times. It also signals to me that two back sets will be less plentiful, but that 2 TE sets will rule the day.
