Gary Kubiak and the zone blocking scheme have returned to Denver.
That means we can expect Broncos running backs to run wild in 2015.
But not everyone has bought into the hype.
NFL.com's Marc Sessler revealed his top-ranked NFL backfields on Monday, and the Broncos did not make the Top 10. Denver came in at No. 13.
Wrote Sessler:
Peyton Manning went out of his way last week to praise C.J. Anderson, saying, per ESPN.com: "If you talk to him you think he's about a 12-year veteran starter and he's only started six games. I'm getting a ton of reps with him, and the sky is the limit for him, I will say that." I'm not in love with Ball's tape from last season, but he and Hillman make this roster a deep one. I trust that Kubiak will make it work.
Anderson took over as Denver's starter midway through last season and rushed for 849 yards and 8 touchdowns in seven starts (14 games). He was voted a Pro Bowl alternate and was later added to the roster when Le'Veon Bell was removed with an injury.
Anderson took advantage of a starting opportunity created by injuries last year. Ball missed most of the season due to injury, rushing for 172 yards and a score in five games. Hillman rushed for 434 yards and three touchdowns in eight healthy games.
Sessler is correct about Denver's backfield being deep. Ball and Hillman aside, Denver has Juwan Thompson, a 225-pound bruiser, and Kapri Bibbs, a preseason fan favorite.
There's no denying that Denver's backfield is deep, but their ranking among all 32 NFL teams is debatable. Where would you rank them entering the 2015 season?
