Justin Houston Says the Chiefs have the best pass rushing duo in the NFL

The best pass rushing duo resides in Denver, not Kansas City.

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Over the weekend Kansas City Chiefs pass rushing star Justin Houston was asked if the Chiefs had the best pass rushing duo in the entire NFL. Naturally he said yes, but is he right?

Justin Houston is coming off a season where he lead the league in sacks with 22 and was a half-sack short of tying the single-season sack record. He's a great player who puts the Chiefs in this discussion.

"I'd say so. I think everybody should think the same way," Houston said. "I think you should think that as an NFL player, think you're the best and believe you're the best. I really do think we are."

Playing opposite of Houston in the Chiefs defense is veteran, edge rusher, Tamba Hali. He's coming off a 6 sack season for the Chiefs which is his lowest since 2008. Hali will turn 32 years old in November, and is probably heading towards the twilight of his career.

Now the Chiefs did spend a first round pick on an edge rusher to eventually replace Hali in the lineup. The team selected Dee Ford in first-round of the 2014 NFL Draft, and he had some struggles last season. The rookie only totaled 1.5 sacks last season.

If Ford ran towards the play instead of away from it, he might have had a better rookie season.

Now while I believe the Chiefs pass rush tandum is good, I believe the Broncos is better, here's why.

While Von Miller's 2014 sack numbers(14 sacks) do not compare the Houston's 22 from last season, I think they will be much closer in 2015.

Miller will be playing in a 3-4 defense under Wade Phillips, and he should really flourish in that role. If Miller can stay healthy for all 16 games this season I believe a 20+ sack year is very reachable for him. He's also in a contract year so that gives him some added incentive to have a great year.

playing next to Miller will be veteran DeMarcus Ware. He started the 2014 season on fire by racking up 7 sacks by the halfway point in the season. However, he did wear down towards the end of the season and only finished with 10. That's still 4 more than Hali.

Now with Ware playing his more natural role in Wade Phillips defense I believe we will see a more productive Ware in 2015.

The Broncos also spent a first-round pick on edge rusher Shane Ray during the first round of this year's NFL Draft. Ray figures to split some time with Ware.

So while I believe the Chiefs may have(by a slim margin) have the better pass rusher, I think the Broncos have the better pass rushing duo.

What do you think MHR?
