Horse Tracks: Broncos DC Wade Phillips says backup ILBs the best he's ever had

Denver's defensive coordinator had high praise for Denver's rotational linebackers.

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

With starters Brandon Marshall and Danny Trevathan dinged up, backup inside linebackers Todd Davis and Steven Johnson have been getting more reps in practice this training camp. The two reserve players have filled in well, and they give the team excellent depth at linebacker, defensive coordinator Wade Phillips said a week into camp.

"Our backup group is probably the best that I've ever had. I think a lot of those guys can play and have played well in practice," Phillips said.

That's high praise from Phillips, who has coached in the NFL since 1976.

Well done, Todd and Steven.
