All-pro Denver Broncos safety, T.J. Ward, joined Eric Goodman and Zach Fogg on Mile High Sports' Afternoon Drive and talked about coming back from his one game suspension to face the Kansas City Chiefs.
You may recall that the decision came a day after Tom Brady's suspension was overturned by a judge. Ward took full responsibility for what happened that brought about the suspension and is fully ready to come out to help the Broncos overcome the Chiefs on prime time.
On getting back onto the field this week
"Ah man, I've itching for two weeks pretty much, cause I didn't play that last preseason game or the home opener, so I'm itching [to play]."
On covering Travis Kelce
"You know, just tall, athletic tight ends have been the story week to week these days. Kelce, he's great after the catch. He runs the ball very well. He actually runs really good routes for a tight end for a guy his size, so that's what he brings."
On comparing Kelce to Rob Gronkowski
"I guess you could say that, if they have that many attributes that are similar. But I think there are differences. Kelce tries to avoid you more and Gronk tries to body you up. He's more physical."
Will Ward have a big game against the Chiefs?
At the very least, Ward will be fresh and ready for game action. I actually like him to help solidify the run defense a little more than if he were out. In pass coverage, I think he'll be okay. It sure sounded as though he missed not being out there for what was a monster game from the defense this past Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens.
I would expect him to come out fired up and ready to play. Perfect timing as far as I am concerned. It's hard to believe that the defense just got a little better than it was last week. Crazy...
