Montee Ball worked out with Patriots, according to reports

Zac Dysert did too.

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Former Denver Broncos running back Montee Ball was last rumored to be close to signing with the Indianapolis Colts. Those reports never materialized, opening the door for the next wave of info on the future of the former 2nd round pick.

That wave has come in: Ball has worked out with the New England Patriots, according to ESPN's Field YatesNFL.com's Ian Rapoport, and ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio, citing a source.

(Do they all have the same one source? Is it a team source or a player source?)

It doesn't sound like a signing is imminent, however - NFL.com notes that the Patriots like to work out everybody and make it sound like Ball could be insurance if one of their running backs goes down.

The Patriots also worked out Zac Dysert, The Denver Post reports.

Look out for the ol' "show me your old playbook" signing from Bill Belichick. No doubt, just before Week 12, when the Patriots play the Broncos, both Ball and Dysert will be signed, sealed and delivered.
