John Elway: "These victories are taking it out of me"

Eric Goodman and Zach Fogg on Mile High Sports' Afternoon Drive discussed a Facebook post from John Elway after the Denver Broncos defeated the Detroit Lions 24-12 on Sunday Night Football. The transition from an offensive powerhouse to a defensive powerhouse isn't always an easy one.

I don't know about the rest of you, but these victories are taking it out of me. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. I'll take them.

Ironically, this is exactly the kind of team that can win a Super Bowl for you. It's going to be exciting, it's going to be nail biting at times, but this defense is what is going to lead the Broncos and ultimately, Peyton Manning, to the promised land. As Eric and Zach put it below, this is the "kicking and screaming" Elway wanted. Well, he got it and we're not complaining either, John.

So which team would you rather have, Broncos Country? The old Broncos would either blow a team out and coast to the win or face a real test and falter like they did against the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl. These Broncos are struggling to find an offensive identity, but are playing a style of defense that certainly seems poised to rival that Super Bowl champion Seahawks unit of 2013. Personally, I'm perfectly happy for the Broncos defense to keep grinding up opposing offenses for victory after victory.
