Broncos Saints update: Offense began to derp away the game in the third quarter

Trevor Siemian, through poor decision-making, has given the momentum back to the New Orleans Saints who now lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Denver Broncos ended the second quarter with an interception and a six-point swing as the New Orleans Saints converted that turnover into a field goal to end the half.

Trevor Siemian hit Virgil Green on a short screen that led to a 15-yard gain to open the third quarter for the Broncos. Devontae Booker took the next snap nine yards on first down giving him 60 yards in the game on just 13 carries. Booker was stuffed on the next carry to setup a third and one. Then Booker again was stuffed on third down to kill the drive.

The Saints, from their own ten yard line, got the ball out to the 16 to setup a third and four. Under pressure, Drew Brees stepped up in the pocket to hit Willie Snead over the middle for a big first down gain out to the 30 yard line.

A ten yard run from Mark Ingram led to another short pass over the middle who burned Todd Davis for a 20 yard gain. Brees hit Brandin Cooks deep down to the Broncos 2-yard line for a first and goal. Brees would find Snead wide open in the end zone for the touchdown.

That was Brees’ 450th career touchdown pass.

Broncos 10, Saints 10.

It felt like a three and out could be coming as Siemian misfired on two straight plays, with one being dropped by Demaryius Thomas. On third and and ten, Siemain would hit Emmanuel Sanders over the middle for a fourteen yard gain.

After a solid five yard run from Booker, Siemian would throw a ball directly to the other team only to have it dropped. Very lucky that didn’t get picked as it was thrown directly into double coverage. On third and five, Siemian hit A.J. Derby for a 12-yard gain and a first down.

After a short run from Kapri Bibbs, Siemian went Virgil Greens’ way again and was nearly picked, again. On third down and nine, Siemian throws another pick that was returned all the way to the Broncos 39 yard line.

Brees hit Tim Hightower on a jump pass for a huge 23-yard gain down inside the red zone. There was no stopping the Saints offense on this drive. The blood was in the water and Brees is a first ballot Hall of Famer. Three plays later, Brees his Snead for the touchdown.

Saints 17, Broncos 10.

Siemian came out and hit Thomas on a solid intermediate pass for a first down out to the Broncos 43-yard line. Booker took the next play nine yards and on second and one Siemian faked to Booker to complete a pass over the middle to Andy Janovich.

Bibbs took the next handoff for four yards, but then Siemian tried to run through some pressure and was sacked. On third and eight, Siemian hit Thomas on a short slant who took it for an 18 yard gain and a first down.

Bring on the fourth quarter!
