Shawn Drotar sat in with Les Shapiro of the Afternoon Drive, and they had a lot to say about the Broncos’ current situation on the offensive line. Ty Sambrailo was the major topic of discussion. He has been a major disappointment for the offense, but going forward, he looks to be getting more playing time.
Injuries have been a big problem for the second round draft pick out of Colorado State. He missed all of 2015, and has struggled to stay heathy in 2016. Head coach Gary Kubiak has indicated that he and Donald Stephenson will split time at right tackle. Apparently, they will be going with the hot hand.
While Sambrailo is excited about getting more playing time, many in Broncos Country look at that with some skepticism. The Sambrailo pick has been one that many can point at as a miss for John Elway in recent drafts. His olé style of blocking makes most people cringe, least of all Trevor Siemian.
However, if the offensive line has been able to use the bye week to improve that could be the key to winning against Kansas City. Don’t get too wrapped up in looking at the Chiefs’ loss to Tampa Bay. They were focused on Denver, which is a big mistake in the NFL. They will be ready for the Broncos.
Justin Houston will be ready to get after the quarterback. Sambrailo and Stephenson are going to need to play much better than they have all year to contain Houston. Sunday night will be won in the trenches. It is cliché, but it’s cliché for a reason.
