Week 9 NFL Sunday Open Thread

There’s not a whole lot of interesting games today, but there’s a few that will keep us interested until Sunday Night Football arrives.

Happy Fall Back Day! Who doesn’t love waking up early on a Sunday with an extra hour of sleep in the bag?

Early Games

There are a couple of marquee matchups today, one from each conference. In the AFC is the Pittsburgh Steelers playing at the Baltimore Ravens. These two teams always play each other tough, so it should be a fun game to watch. In the NFC, the New York Giants will host the Philadelphia Eagles as both teams try to keep up with the high-powered Dallas Cowboys.

The Cowboys play the Cleveland Browns, so they should be able to move to 7-1 today. Meanwhile the Kansas City Chiefs host the Jacksonville Jaguars, so they are poised to move into sole possession of second place in the AFC West once the Oakland Raiders or Denver Broncos lose on Sunday Night Football.

The Minnesota Vikings will look to get back to their winning ways when they host the Detroit Lions, but their offensive coordinator just quit and that could create some problems. The last early game is the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins. Who cares.

Late Games

If there were an interesting game this afternoon, I’d certainly lead with that. There isn’t. I would expect the New Orleans Saints to beat the San Francisco 49ers. I would expect the Green Bay Packers to dispatch the Indianapolis Colts at home. Who cares who wins between the Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Rams.

I suppose the Tennessee Titans at the San Diego Chargers is the most interesting game. San Diego is trying to claw their way back to .500, while the Titans actually have a chance to compete for the AFC South title.

In any case, it’s all here to pass the time while we wait for the game we all really care about tonight.
