Pro Football Focus ranks Trevor Siemian as the 27th best starting quarterback in the NFL

Trevor is a bottom five starting quarterback according to the folks at PFF.

Steve Palazzolo of Pro Football Focus released a ranking of all 32 starting quarterbacks in the National Football League from best to worse. Topping the list is New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, but Broncos fans will have to do a bit of scrolling before finding Trevor Siemian's name on the list. Pro Football Focus ranked Siemian the 27th best starting quarterback in the league.

This ranking makes Siemian a bottom five starting quarterback in the NFL and puts him behind the likes of Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles and Chicago Bears current starting quarterback Matt Barkley.

Here is what Palazzolo had to say about Siemian and why he ranked him there.

27. Trevor Siemian, Denver Broncos

2016 overall grade: 50.4

Siemian is limited as a passer, often needing a clean vision of the play pre-snap in order to succeed. This leads to plenty of inconsistency, both on a week-to-week and a play-for-play basis. In the grand scheme of things, he’s performed well for a quarterback with low expectations, but he’s also a hindrance for a Denver team that still features a championship-level defense.

Siemian has started 12 games for the Denver Broncos and has passed for 3,012 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions. A 2 to 1 touchdown to interception ratio is nice to see, especially after Manning's struggles with turnovers last season. Siemian has completed 61.3% of his passes and has a quarterback rating of 88.1.

Siemian has been largely inconsistent this year with the Broncos, but that should be expected for a former late 7th round pick making his first career starts. Nearly half of Siemian's 16 touchdowns came in two games(4 against the Bengals and 3 against the Chiefs). The other 9 passing touchdowns were spread out through his other 10 starts. Also after starting 6-1 as an NFL starter, he's currently finishing the playoff run 1-4 as a starter and could potentially finish the season 1-6 as the Broncos starter.

Another way to look at these rankings is to notice that the Broncos defense has played 4 of the 5 quarterbacks listed in the top five slots in this list. Tom Brady, Matt Ryan, Andrew Luck and Drew Brees. While the team has gone 2-2 against these quarterbacks, the Broncos defense has performed well against all four quarterbacks.

One final silver lining is this; the Houston Texans newly signed $18 million dollar benched quarterback Brock Osweiler comes in at dead last on this list. So I guess things could be worse for the Broncos right now.
