Horse Tracks: What was the pivotal moment of the Denver Broncos regular season run?

Dustin Bradford/Getty Images

So many things went the Denver Broncos way this year. If we could only name one moment or play during the regular season that spurred this team to its championship run, what would it be?

I have a short list of moments that fit the bill.

1. Dominating the Packers

The 29-10 blowout win over the previous unbeaten Green Bay Packers certainly showed the NFL how good this Broncos defense could be when it plays its best game. This is against Aaron Rodgers - the consensus best all around quarterback in the NFL today.

2. The Fall and Resurrection of Manning

In hindsight, the Peyton Manning situation played out perfectly for the Broncos. Brock Osweiler played well enough for many of us to think the Manning era had ended, but the spark Manning's triumphant return created could very well be the reason this team won it all.

3. Bye, Bye Tom Brady

The overtime win over the New England Patriots was easily the most exciting win of the year. When C.J. Anderson broke through for the game winning touchdown in overtime, that was when I really started to believe this team might just be a Super Bowl winning kind of team.

What regular season moment gets your vote?

Of all the the free agents on John Elway‘s docket, Von Miller is clearly the No. 1 priority. And unlike Brock Osweiler or Malik Jackson, there’s no fear of him bolting Denver. If a long-term deal can’t get done, the Broncos will slap the franchise tag on him until it does.
