Horse Tracks: Running back Derrick Henry compares to....Von Miller?

New, comments

Good Morning Broncos Country!

SB Nation

The 2016 NFL Combine kicked into full gear on Friday when the first on the field drills took place. This year's top offensive lineman, running backs, and special teamers took to the field to do their 40-yard dashes, vertical jumps, and other various drills.

Well, one player who stole the show yesterday was Alabama running back prospect Derrick Henry.

Everyone wanted to see how the Heisman Trophy winning running back would test on Friday, and boy did he not disappoint.

Henry's measurables we're already eye-popping. He was measured at 6-2 and 5/8ths and weighed a trim 247 pounds.

He ran a 4.54 40 time which is insane for a man of that size, had a 10 foot-10 inch broad jump, and had a 37 inch vertical. He also put up 22 reps on the bench press. (Watch his highlights here)

Those are pretty outstanding numbers for Henry, and should help his draft stock going forward.

What made things even more nuts is when they compared them to a certain Super Bowl 50 MVP linebacker. The numbers are basically identical.

I remember watching Von that offseason. He impressed me at the Senior Bowl and continued to prove his athleticism at the Combine. It was an impressive workout for Von Miller that day.

Now in 2016, we have a running back who is the same height and weight as Von who runs the same 40 time as Von and has very similar drill numbers as Von. Only difference is instead of being a pass rushing force, Henry is a downhill/physical running back who punishes defenses.

I know Alabama backs have a history of being duds in the NFL(mostly Trent Richardson recently) but I'm officially on the Derrick Henry bandwagon despite trying to avoid it.

I'm just saying, the Broncos could really use a powerful running back next year to pair with C.J. It sure would help whoever is quarterbacking our team!

Go Broncos!
