James Jones: Panthers defense has the edge in Super Bowl 50

The disrespect continues.

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Green Bay Packers wide receiver James Jones appeared on NFL Network on Wednesday and was asked which defense will have the edge in Super Bowl 50. They asked Jones this because he played both the Broncos and Panthers defense this past season.

He said the Panthers have an edge.

Here is what he had to say.

"From playing both the teams, we're talking about two defenses that are unbelievable. Everybody's talking about Denver's defense," said Jones "I truly believe that Carolina has the advantage on defense. Like I said before, they're all on a string. They know where they're supposed to be. The fastest defense I've probably played against in my nine years in the National Football League."

That's interesting.

Yes, the Panthers have a very good defense. It's a big reason why they are here, but I think Jones is forgetting what the Broncos defense did to Green Bay earlier in the season.

Let's take a quick look how that game went down.

The Broncos held Aaron Rodgers to 77 yards passing. Yes, only 77 yards passing after 4 quarters. He went 14 for 22 for 77 yards. The Broncos defense hit, rattled and sacked Rodgers three times. The Broncos defense also forced three fumbles that night.

As for James Jones? He had one catch for two yards. Might be why he is forgetting how dominant the Broncos defense was that night.

Now let's take a quick look at how the Packers did against this great Carolina defense this season.

The same Aaron Rodgers that threw for 77 yards and 0 touchdowns against the Broncos put up 369 yards and 4 touchdowns against this Panthers defense.

James Jones didn't do too much better against the Panthers but finished with two receptions for 57 yards.

I really don't understand Jones's logic here.

He also goes on to praise the Panthers confidence on defense. He says it's hard to match the confidence right now.

"The craziest thing about them is the confidence of that football team right now. It's hard to match that. Beyond the talent that they have, it's hard to match the confidence that they got right now. I feel like their defense is going to get after Peyton a little bit."

Yeah, the Broncos who just got done hitting Tom Brady 23 times in one game, shutting down their offense, and beating the defending Super Champions is not confident about their ability as well.

I'm not taking anything away from Carolina's defense, but the disrespect the Broncos continue to get this week(and all season) baffles me.

Hopefully, comments like these will only make the chip on the shoulder of the Broncos defense bigger. I expect them to come out and play a very good game during Super Bowl 50.

People won't be disrespecting them after Sunday. They will be mentioning them as one of the greatest defenses of all time.
