The free agency losses the Broncos underwent last offseason have netted them a haul of compensatory Draft picks this offseason. That's the way these compensatory picks work.
The NFL has announced the Broncos have been awarded three picks - one in the third round, one in the 4th round, and one in the 6th round. These align with the projections Mile High Report has been giving Broncos fans for months now, based off projections from various outlets. The picks correspond to the free agent losses of Julius Thomas, Orlando Franklin, and Terrance Knighton respectively.

Next offseason, it's been suggested the Broncos could be given two third-round compensatory picks for the free agent losses of Brock Osweiler and Malik Jackson. A single NFL team being awarded two compensatory draft picks in the third round hasn't happened since 2005, when the Broncos were awarded the same.
