According to NFL Networks Ian Rapoport, If the Denver Broncos lose quarterback Brock Osweiler to the Houston Texans in Free Agency, they will try to trade for quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
If the #Broncos lose QB Brock Osweiler, expect them to come after QB Colin Kaepernick. That appears to be their backup plan.

With free agent quarterback Brock Osweiler deciding between the Denver Broncos and the Houston Texans, General Manager John Elway has a backup plan in place if he picks the Texans. That guy is the explosive Colin Kaepernick.
I know this wouldn't be the most popular move, but General Manager John Elway says he has "always liked Colin".
"I’ve always liked Colin," said Elway, who went to nine Pro Bowls and won two Super Bowls as a player with the Broncos. "I think he’s very athletic, and he’s a guy that can make a lot of big plays. He’s doing more within the pocket, which I think will continue to help him. He’s a great athlete, and he’s got that big-play ability to avoid things and make things happen."
Now, if the Broncos wanted to acquire Kaepernick, they would have to trade some draft picks to the San Francisco 49ers. It's unclear if the Niners even want to trade Kap, but if so it shouldn't cost too much. He is coming off two down seasons and was benched last year, so his value is pretty low right now. Also, the Broncos would have to take his contract.
During Kaepernick's five-year career, he has totaled 10,030 yards passing, 56 touchdowns and 26 interceptions. He has a career completion percentage of 59.9%, and a career QB rating of 88.4. He has also added another 1,832 yards rushing and 11 rushing touchdowns.
So if the Broncos want to go after Kaepernick, they will be getting a productive quarterback.
