Heading into the 2012 NFL Draft all the talk was about Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck and Heisman winning quarterback Robert Griffin III. Luck replaced Peyton Manning in Indianapolis and the Washington Redskins made a big trade with the St. Louis Rams for the second overall pick to select quarterback Robert Griffin III.

If Denver Broncos General Manager John Elway had his way, he would have traded up to the second overall pick to select RG3.

According to Fox Sports‘ John Czarnecki, Elway "loved" Griffin.

"One mystery team after Griffin might be the Broncos," wrote Czarnecki.  "John Elway loves the Heisman winner, and it’s been no secret that their scouting department did extensive homework on college quarterbacks last fall.

Now fast forward to 2016. Peyton Manning has rode off into the sunset as a Super Bowl Champion, and Brock Osweiler is heading to Houston. This leaves the Broncos without a startng quarterback and that one quarterback Elway loved was just recently released by the Washington Redskins.

Could Elway now bring in the prospect he was raving about a few years back?

It has already been rumored that Griffin will be visiting Denver sooner rather than later and i'd be shocked if it doesn't happen.

Also, RG3 was a big Broncos fan growing up, so there might be some mutual interest there.

I'm willing to bet the former Heisman winning quarterback will be high on the Broncos radar now that Osweiler bolted for the Texans.
