2016 NFL Draft: Is Dak Prescott a favorite of the Broncos?

There are reports out there stating that the Broncos are high on Dak Prescott.

Matt Bush-USA TODAY Sports

With the 2016 NFL Draft only 48 hours away, rumors and whispers about who the Denver Broncos like and may target in the early rounds of the draft are beginning to leak out. One player being connected to the Denver Broncos is former Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott.

I asked Benjamin Allbright of CBS Sports if the Broncos were high on quarterback Dak Prescott and he responded saying yes. This confirms a report from Charlie Campbell of WalterFootball.com back in February saying that the Broncos were "enamored" with quarterback Dak Prescott.

Here is what Campbell had to say back in February about the Broncos interest in Dak Prescott.

Even if Osweiler is re-signed, drafting a quarterback early in the 2016 NFL draft is definitely in play for Denver. The Broncos loved North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz, but know that he won't be getting anywhere near Denver's pick. However, the team also is enamored with Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott. He is a good fit in Gary Kubiak's offense and sources say that Prescott is in play for the Broncos on the second-day of the draft.

As we know Osweiler did not re-sign and the Broncos traded a 2017 7th round pick for veteran quarterback Mark Sanchez. Since then the Broncos kick the tires on Colin Kaepernick, Sam Bradford, and Brian Hoyer but have yet to come away with a quarterback.

This has led to Yahoo Sports Frank Schwab to say if the Broncos really wanted those veteran quarterbacks mentioned above, they would have already signed or traded for one.

I think Schwab makes a good point and it really seems like the Broncos are taking a quarterback in the early portions of the NFL Draft. This brings us back to Dak Prescott, the quarterback who they are reportedly enamored with. Could he be the quarterback the Broncos view as their quarterback of the future? Sounds possible at this point.

Prescott is considered a day two prospect and probably in play for the Broncos second round pick. He may last into the third round, but it would be risky to roll the dice on him falling all the way to the late third round at this point. I mean if the Broncos really are this high on him, better make sure they get him instead of trying to get cute with the value game.

My gut has been wrong many times before(I was convinced the Broncos were taking a QB early last year) but I think the Broncos will either come away with Paxton Lynch or Dak Prescott in this year's draft.
