Broncos expected to have a pre-draft visit/workout with BYU defensive end Bronson Kaufusi

Could the BYU product join the Broncos defensive line?

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

According to Rotoworld's and NBC Sports draft expert Josh Norris, the Denver Broncos are among the teams holding a pre-draft workout/visit with BYU defensive lineman Bronson Kaufusi.

While Norris lists Kaufusi at 6'7", he is listed at 6'6", 285lbs everywhere else. He has your prototypical size, length, and long arms(34 1/2") to be a five-technique in a 3-4 defense in the NFL.

There is a lot to like about Kaufusi. He has the size, length, long arms to be successful defensive line player in the NFL. He also has plus athleticism and agility for a man of his size. He also tested very well during February's NFL Scouting Combine earlier this year to back up those claims.

However, one thing that stands out to me is his age. He will turn 25 years old in July, and that is a bit old for a rookie NFL player. He will be 29 or 30 years old once his rookie contract is up. Older draft prospects usually do not work out in the NFL. An example of this is Phillip Blake who the Broncos drafted in the fourth round despite his age at the time. He was quickly out of the league.

Here is what one NFC Scouting Director had to say about Kaufusi.

"Everyone has been on him for so long that it's kinda anticlimactic now. Someone will take him higher than they should when he tests out at the combine."

Now with all that said, the Broncos do have a need at defensive end. Malik Jackson signed a mega-free agent deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Now the Broncos did just sign defensive end Jared Crick to a free agent deal, and he could potentially start at defensive end for the team. The addition of Crick means the Broncos selecting a defensive lineman in the first round isn't a lock. I think they could add a guy in the third round or so and allow him to compete with Crick.

I will have a full scouting report on Bronson Kaufusi here in the coming days.
