The first sign Paxton Lynch could become the starter of the Denver Broncos this season is here.
According to the Broncos website, Mark Sanchez underwent thumb surgery on Saturday on his non-throwing hand after tearing a ligament. Sanchez got the injury in the weight room on Thursday as part of the team's strength-and-conditioning work.
While the Broncos said the injury is minor, Sanchez will miss the start of organized team activities that are scheduled to begin on May 24. It is expected that he will watch from the sideline the first few days. The OTA period runs four weeks and goes into mid-June.

Trevor Siemian and Lynch are expected to get all of the work at quarterback that first week of OTAs, the Broncos story said. If Lynch doesn't get most of that, I would be surprised. This will be the first chance John Elway and Gary Kubiak get to see their first-round draft choice on the field with Denver's roster. They will want to see what Lynch can do and where he is at this point.
If Lynch does well, an already intriguing offseason will get even more so.
Buckle up, Broncos Country. The quarterback fun has begun.
