Horse Tracks: Training camp underway for Denver Broncos rookies

What? No 'Greatest to Wear' series revisited in Horse Tracks today? Not today, my Broncos brethren! Twenty-nine newly minted Broncos reported to Training Camp on Sunday and with that, I can no officially declare the summer drought of offseason Broncos news officially over. Do you smell that? It's football season and it's here.

Man, does it feel good to know that actual football work is happening today at Dove Valley. Let's face it, this offseason wasn't the easiest to get through. Sure, there was that Super Bowl victory that made everything more palpable. From the parade, to the commemorative DVD release, to the ring ceremony, to the season in review video NFL Network premiered Sunday night, to the banner raising (or whatever they're going to do or raise... an endzone pad?) during the NFL Thursday night kickoff, to the September-ish release of the Super Bowl 50 America's Game, it has been the championship that has and will keep giving.

Then there were the things that were not so awesome. The roster turns over every year, but it especially stung this offseason because the guys that left all contributed to success the Broncos enjoyed in 2016. Peyton Manning, Malik Jackson, Bruce Osweiler, Danny Trevathan, Omar Bolden, Owen Daniels, Louis Vasquez, Aaron Brewer, David Bruton, Andre Caldwell, Ryan Harris, Evan Mathis, and Tyler Polumbus all either joined other teams or retired.

Then there were the contract roller-coasters that took Broncos Country for a ride. Immediately following the Super Bowl, there was hope that Denver would re-sign Burt Osweiler, but that was quickly quashed when he took his hurt feelings to Houston for a fat payday. C.J. Anderson's tender was matched by the Miami Dolphins and for a short time looked like he too was on his way out of Denver... until the Broncos matched their offer. Then there was the Von Miller saga. Will he? Won't he? Are his feelings hurt? What's he going to do? It all came to an end with a big fat contract here in the Mile High City.

With regards to arrests and behavior that could warrant a suspension when the season starts, there was only one real blip on that radar and it was Aqib Talib shooting himself or getting shot (likely shot himself) in Dallas. He appears to have recovered and looks like he'll be full-go on July 27th when the rest of the team reports to camp.

So with all that doom and gloom now in the past, the 2016 season is finally here. New faces like Donald Stephenson, Russell Okung, Jared Crick and everyone's favorite conversation piece, Mark Sanchez will soon take the field to give those twenty-nine rookies already in camp a run for their money.

Football? It's back.
