According to Pro Football Talk, the Broncos have been contacting teams about trading veteran quarterback Mark Sanchez. If no trade develops he will likely be cut sometime today or tomorrow.
Just heard Broncos are trying to trade Mark Sanchez. He could be cut today or tomorrow.— ProFootballTalk (@ProFootballTalk) August 29, 2016
The Broncos are moving on from the veteran signal caller after second-year quarterback Trevor Siemian won the quarterback job and first-round quarterback Paxton Lynch passed Sanchez on the depth chart.
If the Broncos move on from Mark Sanchez, they will save $3.5 million dollars and a 7th round draft pick according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
So what teams could be interested in trading for Sanchez? Obviously, the Dallas Cowboys could be looking for a backup after Tony Romo went down with a broken bone in his back and have rookie Dak Prescott starting. Another team to keep an eye on is the San Francisco 49ers. They appear to be close to cutting Colin Kaepernick and their Head Coach Chip Kelly had Sanchez in Philidelphia when he was the Eagles Head Coach. All this is speculation of course, but these two make the most sense right now.
It's been a quick fall for the former first-round pick this summer. After a summer of praise from the media, Sanchez quickly fell out of favor with multiple pick 6's during Training Camp. He then followed that up with an interception against the Bears week one and had two fumbles lost against the 49ers a week later. The Broncos decided to not even play Sanchez against the Rams this past Saturday.
So when the Broncos move on from Sanchez they will be in the market for another quarterback, likely a veteran. T.J. Yates is a name that has been rumored. Was with Kubiak in Houston and won a playoff game with the Texans even. Also, with Colin Kaepernick maybe being cut, could Elway look to bring in the guy he nearly traded for this past winter or decide his current controversy makes it not worth it for the Broncos?
