The big news from today's Thursday practice session was Broncos Head Coach Gary Kubiak saying that tight end Virgil Green would likely be a game-time decision for them this Sunday.
Kubiak said Virgil Green (calf) could play without practicing. Likely a game time decision. "It's time for Jeff (Heuerman) to step up."— Cameron Wolfe (@CameronWolfe) September 22, 2016
Green is dealing with a calf injury and hasn't participated in the past two days of practice. If he isn't out there for Friday's practice, he likely won't be playing come Sunday.
Look for veteran Jon Phillips and second-year tight end Jeff Heuerman to step up in Green's place if he can't go or is limited due to the calf injury. Either way, it's a big opportunity for the Broncos 2015 third-round pick to step up. He attended school at Ohio State, so he will have plenty of friends and family present to cheer him on. Hopefully, he has a breakout performance for the Broncos.
Outside of that, everything remained the same for the Broncos on the injury front. Wide receiver Bennie Fowler put in another limited session as he works his way back from an elbow injury. Rookie safety Justin Simmons who plans to play with a club also put in a limited practice session. I think we will see both players go this Sunday.
It was also positive to see tackle/guard Ty Sambrailo put in a full practice. With starting right tackle Donald Stephenson down for a few weeks, we figure to see Sambrailo start at right tackle. Kubiak hinted that he'll be on a snap count so Michael Schofield will likely see some playing time at right tackle as well.
As for the Bengals, wide receiver A.J. Green returned to practice after becoming a father earlier in the week. Tight end C.J. Uzomah, cornerbacks Darqueze Dennard, and Dre Kirkpatrick also put in full practices after being limited on Wednesday.
